Quite a bit of work has gone into preparing the wood on the
east side of the house--so much, in fact that we probably could have built a new one by now! We are most grateful that the majority of the house is brick! Repairs to water damaged wood and a redesign of the window using reclaimed wood and
a window from the potting shed have taken time, but in the end, the results are satisfying. Sometimes it's easier to just buy new, but it is important to reuse and reclaim what you can on these renovations/restorations--otherwise, it might as well be new construction.
After we got the side built back, we had to tackle the layers and layers of paint that had built up over the years. It was so thick that the sander barely made a dent in it so we had to burn it off. The same thing had been done to the Mantua house with excellent results. With a fire extinguisher close at hand, the paint was torched to make it pliable enough to scrape off.

Then hours of sanding...

...and priming...

Finally...ready to paint!!
