The Anatomy of Gray

The best laid plans...

As you know, we had decided to spend the summer making needed repairs to the exterior and sanding and priming the bare wood areas to protect them until we could paint them next year.  Well, (and it’s a big well!) the primer that we are using indicates that the products must be top coated within three weeks.  The product is actually a primer and sealer with a bonding agent that should do the trick to give this old girl the protection she needs for years to come.

Since we have to topcoat the primer, the inevitable discussions began about color.  We’re keeping the general color scheme but adding additional trim colors and a repeating accent color.

Who knew there were so many different grays!  It’s difficult to see in the pictures but there are 5 different grays and two different whites that we painstakingly chose--nothing like being forced to make a decision!  From these, we’ll choose a white, a dark gray and a light gray; we have the winter to decide the accent colors as the areas we’re currently working on won’t require that just yet.

Hey, it’s only paint!  We’ll have the winter to change our minds if we don’t like our final choices before we commit them the the entire house.
